January 2012 Membership Meeting

The January meeting was very interesting and informative!  Thank You Abby Ertel of Huron Pines and Dr. Chris Goddard of the Great Lakes Fisheries Commission for informing us of some very important conservation issues.

President Mouradian with a quick "State of Ann Arbor TU" update

Abby Ertel brought everyone up to speed regarding Huron Pines and all of the work in process and projects planned for the rivers in Northeast Michigan

Dr. Chris Goddard from the Great Lakes Fisheries Commission with a graphic representation of relative caloric values of two food types in Lake Huron.  (I'll take the Big Mac)  On a serious note, he provided a very informative history and forecast of the health of Lake Huron, the fish population and some news related to lamprey control in the Great Lakes.

Yes, that is George's second Coronna and yes that is Richard's bald spot.  A fairly well mannered crowd enjoyed the social hour before the meeting and we all appreciated both guest speakers joining us!

November 2010 Membership Meeting

The November membership meeting was a hoot!  Pete Hodgman and Bear Andrews gave a very interesting and entertaining presentation on fishing for Carp (aka - Golden Bones) on the flats in Traverse City.  Sounds like a challenging and technical approach to attaching to some really big fish in a very pretty setting!

A nice crowd enjoys some fine food and refreshments before Pete starts the show.  You can tell the fish stories are flying fast and furious!
A fine trophy out of Grand Traverse Bay.  You better jump on this wagon quick, because when the word gets out, this will turn into a "Destination" attraction and it's going to get very crowded up there!

Jeff "Bear" Andrews sharing some of his best Carp flies.  We were very lucky to get Bear down to our meeting - certainly one of Michigan's best fly tiers and definitely on the game when it comes to Norther Michigan Carp hunting.

By the way - Thanks to Amber our attentive server at Creekside Grill.  She very skillfully handles the somewhat unruly crowd and I'm sure everyone appreciates her prompt delivery of their much anticipated beverages.
