Ann Arbor Trout Unlimited 6th Annual Conservation Banquet

Thursday Evening - April 12,  2012 at Barton Hills Country Club 

Plans are well underway for our 6th. Annual Conservation Banquet!  We will be getting together again this year at the elegant Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor to enjoy an evening of fly fishing fellowship, fine dining and refreshments and don't forget, festive fundraising.  We expects this year's list of raffle and auction items to set an all time high - a long list of artwork, wines, dining opportunities, guided fishing trips and excellent assortment of fly fishing tackle and accessories.  Scroll down the page to see last years prize list and check back to see the items coming together for this year!

Condo in St. Croix Susan & Floyd Humphrey c/o Tori Price Spend one glorious week in paradise on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.  Beautiful condo over looking Buck Island on the east end of St. Croix.  Available for one week in May 2012 or between Nov 15 thru Jan 5, 2013.  The condo sleeps 4 people (1 Queen bedroom and 1 room with 2 twin beds).  It has 21/2 baths, an open kitchen/living room space and 2 balconies overlooking the Caribbean.  The condo is located at Coakley Bay (www.coakleybay.org) and the entire 100 condo complex is wireless. Our condo has a flat screen TV with basic cable as well as an aprtment sized washing machine/dryer.  The East End of St. Croix hosts numerous restaurants, many with sea side seating.  There are 2 fly fishing guides on the island as well as opportunities to hire guides/boats for deep sea fishing.  There are several golf courses on the island as well as kayak tours and rainforest tours.  The beaches range from calm waters to body surfing waves.  The water and the weather are warm year round.  The condo only accommodates 4 people or less.  There is absolutely no smoking anywhere in the condo or the balconies.  No pets.  May not be suitable for young children.  The dates of availability are subject to mutual consent and are firm.
Conglomerate Falls Cabin AATU Spend a week with the Gratiot River and Lake Superior just a short hike away through 40 acres of preserved wilderness.  The cabin is solar powered with a propane cookstove, propane heater, and wood stove.  There’s also a 2 meter amateur radio antenna. Two or three people will sleep comfortably (double bed and a couch), with plenty of extra space for an additional cot or sleeping bag.  Bring your own bedding and kitchen equipment, leave your worries in the city!
Cabin is reserved for June 2 thru June 9 - time to get back to nature.

2011 Ann Arbor Trout Unlimited Featured Artist - David Ruimveld
 
 

Joining us as our featured artist this year is David Ruimveld. David is a self taught artist working with acrylic paints with many washes to create images of Angling, Sporting, and Wildlife Art. Working out of his studio in Vicksburg, MI near Kalamazoo, his paintings and prints can be found in many galleries, fly shops, and private collections. While he is well known for his paintings of the "Famous Rivers" series, he also enjoys creating images of bird dogs and upland game.  David is a very active supporter of Trout Unlimited and many other conservation organizations.  His artwork is featured at almost every banquet or fundraising event and we are fortunate to have him joining us this April.

Condo in St. Croix

Seven days and seven nights in St. Croix.  This two bedroom 2 1/2 bath condo is located on the east end of the island overlooking Buck Island.  All you need to pack is your bathing suit.  The condo is fully furnished including linens, towels, beach towels and a variety of snorkeling equipment for you to borrow.  Condo unit is at Coakley Bay Condo Complex which has a communal pool and an Italian restaurant.  You will have about a 5 minute drive to beaches and other resorts.  There are several golf courses available as well as a National Park commemorating Christopher Columbus landing on the island, a rum factory to tour, and botanical gardens and historical plantation to visit.  You will need your passport to travel.  Language spoken is English and US dollars is the currency in St. Croix.  No smoking allowed anywhere in condo or on the two balconies.  Russell Chatam Print  AATU This framed print dated 2008 is of a fisherman done in the classic style of Russell Chatham. Notable art critic Robert Hughes is numbered one of Chatham's collectors and there are others as diverse as Paul Allen and actor Jack Nicholson. Chatham's work eschews the narrative tendency of much western art and presents landscapes that stand in intimate relationship towards the human figure even in the absence of it. In the early 1980s Chatham began making lithographs and now stands as one of the world's foremost practitioners of that craft.  His art litographs may have 30 or 40 different layers of color, all of which have to be hand drawn on to the printing plate, and the colors selected for the final effect.
